Caminito Del Rey
This past Sunday I had the pleasure of hiking El Caminito Del Rey (The Walkway of the King) with some girlfriends! For those of you who don't know what that is, it's a pretty stellar path built to wind around stunning cliffs near Malaga, Spain. The most scenic bits of the path are roughly 350 feet above a river and offer incredible views! These pathways were originally utilized by damn workers in the early 1900's and have just recently been renovated after a series of deaths in 1999 and 2000. You can still see the old pathway under most of the trail and it's amazing that it wasn't repaired earlier. Those were some brave souls to be traversing the previous walkway!
Although El Caminito Del Rey has earned itself the title of "Spain's most dangerous hike", it really wasn't so bad. We went with a local tour group and were shuttled from our home town Rota to the start of the trail (about a 3 hour drive) with forty middle aged and senior citizens. The hike altogether is about 3 kilometers and pretty easy! They do issue you hardhards however, which make any picture look SO much more legit. Although, I'm assuming the hardhats are for the clumsy folk out there like me who might get too busy looking around and run into the jagged cliff walls. The hard hat hid my bad hair day though so really it served two purposes!
Be advised that if you want to hike this trail, you have to buy tickets ahead of time. This can be pretty tricky, especially if trying to travel during the summer months, but we had great weather there in the spring!

Me at the start of the cliffs!
The first canyon...check out that view!
Check out those support beams!
The old trail peeking out underneath the new one.
A suspension bridge near the end of the trail. A little wobbly in the wind!
We ate at this awesome little hotel restaurant at the end of the trail and check out that pool (below)! I'm hoping to come back one day and stay for a weekend.
Gorgeous!
